Strictly Come Dancing's Vito Coppola has spoken out about the surprising accident he had while dancing with Ellie Leach over the weekend. He revealed that Ellie has caused him several injuries during their training sessions in recent weeks.
The pair performed the paso doble to Insomnia by Faithless and were praised for their performance, but it came at a cost. Vito was seen holding his tooth after Ellie accidentally hit him in a moment of excitement. Janette Manrara asked Vito: "First of all, how's your tooth?"
Vito Coppola then replied: "My tooth! Last week I almost lost my toe, my big toe, she squeezed so hard it became double the size. The last small finger of the foot became the same size as the toe. Yesterday I almost lost my ear because I fell."
Janette then said: "We know you guys are quite physical, it sounds like, in rehearsals. So just put these on." Janette then gave Vito a glitter-covered sparkly gumshield to help protect his gnashers from Ellie. The duo were quizzed about their high-scoring Paso Doble from the weekend, which earned them the highest score of the series.
Ellie accidentally gave Vito many injuries over the weeks (BBC)Janette mentioned that the last couple to score 37 on a week five Paso won the series in 2010. Vito commented: "This is a lot of pressure but maybe we take this as a sign of good luck. But we keep our feet on the ground." Ellie chimed in: "I feel like I got into the groove of things, I got into the character and I just made my way down the stairs. I made it without falling!"
Strictly's Molly Rainford and Tyler West fuel romance rumours while on tour
"We're always laughing and having fun and the paso was completely different," they added. When asked about their leaderboard rebound, Janette said: "The last week you were down at the bottom of the leaderboard and now this week you are back on the top end. How does that feel?"
Ellie corrected Janette, saying: "We were the top of the second page. We're always looking for the silver lining." Janette, rolling her eyes, replied: "We are talking for dramatic purposes..." This week, they will be dancing to Murder on the Dance Floor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
It comes after the duo fuelled romance rumours following their sizzling performance last week. While the pair ended up landing the second biggest score of the night - gaining 37 points from the judges - fans were convinced the sizzling performance proved the couple were crossing the border from friends to something more romantic. At the end of their performance, Vito took Ellie’s face in his hands and pressed his lips affectionately to her cheek - and viewers were thrilled to see it.
Strictly Come Dancing returns for Halloween week on Saturday, October 28 on BBC1.
