Whether you are booking a staycation, European getaway, or long-haul vacation, a solo trip, or for your friends and family, many turn to Airbnb to find their home away from home during their holiday. But one thing with Airbnb is the numerous additional costs, such as service and cleaning fees, which can see your total price sky rocket.

However, one savvy travel enthusiast, who goes under the handle Lifeofjazz__ on TikTok, shared her simple trick to slash the price of your Airbnb stay – we’re just surprised we didn’t think of it sooner. In the video, which has garnered over 700 likes and has been bookmarked over 400 times, she said: “If you’re tired of paying for overpriced accommodation on holiday then this hack is for you. Do you know you could get discounted Airbnbs, by doing one simple thing?”

The secret, “Messaging your Airbnb host and asking for a better rate”, revealed the travel influencer. It’s so simple, it’s genius. The TikTokker went on to explain she messages the host “every single time” she is booking a trip, and can save almost 50 per cent off her accommodation.

She continued: “I do this every single time I am trying to find a good Airbnb and it works a treat.” Panning to the message exchange between her and a host in the clip, she said: “Look at the message that my Airbnb host sent me back, and they also sent me a special offer. I managed to get my Airbnb for as cheap £147 and look at the price it was before (£250). It’s an amazing hack, so make sure you do it on your next trip.”

While it may not be guaranteed, Jazz has had a 100% success rate in securing a discount, so it is a hack worth trying next time you are travelling. Some social media users questioned whether to message the host before or after your stay, and Jazz stressed messaging before, as it is unlikely you will get a refund following your stay.

Others asked what to write in the message to the host, which the savvy jetsetter detailed in the caption. She wrote: “HACK. Send this message to the Airbnb host “’Hi, I hope you are well. I love this property and really want to stay here. I was wondering if there was anything you could do on the rate, as it’s slightly out of my budget.’ I say this every single time, and it works a treat.” Fellow TikTok users were impressed with the hack, as one commented: “Needed. Thank you so much."
