Strictly Come Dancing's famous faces have voiced their support for Amanda Abbington, who has quit the BBC dancing show.

It comes after the Mr Selfridge actress made the decision to pull out of the competition just weeks into the show and is yet to publicly address her decision. Sources initially claimed that she had suffered a series of "setbacks" before making the dramatic decision to walk away.

Following the news, which was announced less than 24 hours ago, Amanda's co-stars have voiced their support for the actress with many branding her a "gem". Taking to Instagram, Zara McDermott said: "Amanda you are a true gem in this world. We love you beyond words."

Prior to the official announcement that she was withdrawing from the competition, a source told the Daily Star that Amanda was "fed up". Taking to Instagram, the official BBC Strictly page announced: "Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best." Just days before her dramatic exit, Amanda and was absent from the Saturday's live show – but fans were left baffled when they spotted her dance partner Giovanni Pernice during the live broadcast.

Before Amanda's decision to quit the programme, it was announced that Amanda had fallen ill and would be expected to return to the show this coming weekend. During a broadcast of It Takes Two last week, host Janette Manrara said: "We have some breaking news, unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week. Amanda, we hope you get well soon my love, sending you all the best wishes!"
