Amanda Abbington has quit Strictly Come Dancing after missing last week's show.

Last weekend on the BBC dance competition, Amanda and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice was noticeably absent from the competition. At the start of the show, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman confirmed that Amanda and Giovanni wouldn't be dancing and would receive a bye to the following week as per the rules of the show.

The 49-year-old pulled out of the live show on Saturday night “due to medical reasons”, however it was announced she could “return the following week”.

Fans had been hopeful they would be back for Halloween week, which airs this weekend, but Amanda has decided to quit the show and will not be returning to the Strictly dancefloor.

On Monday night, presenter and singer Fleur East confirmed the Sherlock star had exited the show while presenting Strictly spin off series It Takes Two on BBC Two.

Fleur read aloud a statement from a Strictly spokesperson which said: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future.”

A compilation played of Abbington’s best moments on the dancing show after Fleur said: “Let’s remind ourselves of Amanda’s time on Strictly.”

After the clip played, the presenter added: “Amanda, we are sending you all of our love.”

Amanda has remained tight-lipped, but she did break her silence earlier this week to post a quote on her Instagram story. She shared an image that was originally uploaded to the social media platform by an account called @positiveminds011.

The image showed a picture of the late actor Robin Williams as well as the words, which read: "People don't fake depression... they fake being okay. Remember that. Be kind."
