No matter how often you might scrub your toilet bowl, a build-up of limescale and stains is a common bug bear that many of us will have encountered in our bathrooms.

These stains can be caused by bacteria, mineral deposits, or coloured toilet blocks, and if not cleaned, often leave unsightly marks at the base or around the rim of your toilet bowl.

Thankfully, fans of cleaning expert Mrs Hinch have taken to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page to advise a fellow user on how to remove these frustrating marks - and the answer will set you back less than £2.

Posting on the Facebook page alongside an image of a stain-streaked toilet bowl, the troubled homeowner said: "Please does anyone have any advice for cleaning my toilet? Just bought a house and the toilet bowl has yellow and black stains in it. Any ideas please?"

Many members of the group came back with the same recommendation, urging she use the Black Harpic Power Plus Toilet Cleaner, as it is "works every time."

One person advised: "The stain will go away but it needs a good soak with Harpic," and another suggested: "Harpic Black Spray - leave for an hour or so and it will be white and clean."

Described by a customer as "the best toilet cleaner I have ever found," Black Harpic Plus is on offer at Amazon for 74% off making it £1.18, or it is also available at Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Poundland.

Some people have commented that it has a "strong smell", so it is recommended that you ventilate the bathroom by opening a window after applying to the toilet bowl.

For an alternative toilet bowl cleaner the Astonish Power Clean Toilet Bowl Tabs are discounted on Amazon for £3.95 and shoppers say it left their toilets "sparkly clean."

If you're struggling with mould in your bathroom, this mould remover spray has been hailed a "miracle" at tackling stubborn marks that are tricky to remove.
