A single mum has died from a massive electric shock while she was unplugging her washing machine.

Amaila Maria da Cruz Werlick da Silva, 37, was standing barefoot in a puddle of water in her home in Povoado Tibiri, a rural area of Sao Bras, in Alagoas, Brazil, when she suffered the electric shock that killed her on October 11. Her daughter, who has not been named, told local media that her mother had been handling the washing when she was zapped by the washing machine, which was plugged into a 110v power outlet. Amaila had gone to unplug the device and was reportedly electrocuted when she touched a live wire.

Local media have reported that she died instantly from the shock from the power outlet. The Legal Medical Institute (IML) removed her body, with it understood that they will examine it in order to establish an official cause of death. The investigation into Amaila's death is ongoing. People have taken to her Facebook page to express their sadness at what happened. One person called her a "really lovely friend" and another wrote "condolences to all her family".

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old boy was fatally electrocuted after he jumped into a hotel pool to retrieve his phone that had fallen into the water in Mexico. Victim Emiliano Sanchez Tavitas was reportedly electrocuted when the pool's underwater lights came on and at least five other people also received shocks at the luxury Dream Lagoon complex's Crystal Lagoon pool, in Apodaca‌, last August 6.

The incident happened at around 7:30 pm when the pool's lights came on as the sun was going down and a 13-year-old girl lost consciousness but was revived. Paramedics battled for 50 minutes to save Emiliano before declaring him dead from cardiorespiratory arrest. His mother Denisse Tavitas has attacked official reports describing her son's death as an "unfortunate accident" and she says her son was killed by shoddy building work and negligence. She said on social media: "It was not an accident."

Denisse explained: "Emi my beautiful boy... died as a result of an electric shock while he was inside a pool owned by the subdivision #CystalLagoonsApodaca, when the internal lights came on due to inadequate installation and lack of maintenance." Denisse says that she has asked the company in charge of the work to accept responsibility and said they had "falsified everything".

Dream Lagoons is an ongoing building project that features a large artificial lake, with crystal clear water and luxury apartments and houses built around it. The police are reportedly investigating the case.
