Justin Timberlake won't stop singing Cry Me A River amid Britney Spears claims

Justin Timberlake released his hit song Cry Me A River shortly after he and Britney Spears broke up, with the song widely believed to be about their split.

In the track, the NSYNC star alluded to Britney's infidelity and serenaded a Britney lookalike in the music video. In her new memoir, The Woman in Me, the Princess of Pop has admitted she was stunned by the video and said she should have prevented it from being released, but that hasn't stopped Justin from continuing to belt out the hit.

A video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows Justin performing Cry Me A River at Dave Chappelle's birthday party in August. While on stage, he admitted he was warned not to perform the song anymore.

"They said not to do this song no more. F*** that!" Justin told the audience as the song started to play. Fans were divided over his decision to play the sing, with one person writing: "Looks like someone is still hung up on his ex!" Someone else said: "I feel sick. Maybe Britney could hook up with Taylor and write a revenge song."

However, others defended the move, with one fan posting: "He has nothing to apologize for. He’s allowed to write songs about his life." Another added: "Great song about his own experience."

Britney and Justin started dating in 1998 after meeting on set of The Mickey Mouse Club. They split in 2002, with Justin releasing Cry Me A River that same year.

In her memoir, Britney has described her reaction to the release of the music video for the song. She wrote: "A woman who looks like me cheats on him and he wanders around sad in the rain."

The singer also said the media tried to portray her as a "harlot" who had broken Justin's heart. In a copy of her book seen by The New York Times, she instead said: "I was comatose in Louisiana, and he was happily running around Hollywood."

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Britney admitted Justin spoke to her before the video was released. "He called me up and behind it was, 'And by the way, you're in a video that’s coming out. Don't worry about it. It's not a big deal'," she said.

Britney said she was asked if she wanted to change the video, but she declined. "Then it came out, and I said, 'I should’ve freakin’ said no to this s**t!” I was so like, 'Woah. What is going on right now?'" she added.
