New trends make us rethink the way we live our daily lives, and while some prove baffling others can drastically improve the way we do things, whether it's how to navigate relationships or deal with difficult situations.
But some popular social media trends are not always serious - and one TikTok video circulating the social media platform proves just that. Dubbed the “crispy Diet Coke," the trend sees people sharing a new way to enjoy the refreshing fizzy drink.
The inventive term is used when a can of Diet Coke is served to chilled “perfection.' This is accomplished by placing the beverage in a fridge for an extended period of time, preferably for two to three days, and eventually pouring the liquid into frozen glasses, and adding an excessive amount of ice cubes.
The method was popularised by TikTok creator and influencer, Kristen, who posts under the username @hauskris. The content creator regularly shares her love for the iconic drink, something which most people can all relate to.
The 26-year-old from San Francisco amassed more than 1.5 million views with her favourite “recipe” for an extra “crispy” DC. “I have been waiting for upwards of, give or take two weeks, to take this specific exact Diet Coke break, because all my ingredients have had to marinate,” she states in the popular video.
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
“What do I mean by ‘marinate’? Well that is the recipe to success for the perfect, stunning, beautiful, crispy Diet Coke. The longer it’s been in the fridge, the crispier it will be. My minimum time in fridge is probably two to three days.”
Kristen goes on to explain she prefers to drink it with a glass straw and a frozen glass, describing the detail as “key”. “This has been in the freezer for… a long time,” she explained, showing a frosted glass. Next, she added in ice and said: "Ice is crucial. Doesn’t have to be pebbled, but I prefer pebbled.” Sipping the drink, she said: “Wow, takes my breath away every time.”
Fans flooded the comments section to praise the method, with one person writing: “A crispy Diet Coke just hits different,” one said. “It is so satisfying,” another agreed. A third person chimed: “I just did this step by step and I’m in heaven.”
