Amanda Abbington's Strictly Come Dancing absence explained as she misses show
Strictly Come Dancing will go ahead without one star on the line-up on Saturday night, with a couple forced to pull out of the show on Friday, as confirmed by It Takes Two star Janette Manrara who said the news was "unfortunate".
Amanda Abbington and her pro dance partner Giovanni Pernice were confirmed to be missing the show on Saturday, the first time this series anyone has had to skip a week. Despite some injuries and health woes here and there, no other contestant has yet to miss a show - while this is something that has happened a number of times over the years.
The news was revealed on Friday's spin-off show, It Takes Two, by host Janette, just hours before the live show. It wouldn't have been a decision made lightly, with Amanda missing this week despite training - while the other remaining contestants will go ahead as usual.
Of course one of them will leave during Sunday's episode, while Amanda will be able to return next week and perform again as long as protocols are met. But why is she missing from the latest show, and why will she and Giovanni not perform?

The news broke on Friday evening, just a day before the next live show. Janette said: "We have some breaking news, unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.
"Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week. Amanda we hope you get well soon my love, sending you all the best wishes!" Strictly Come Dancing added to the Mirror in a further statement: "Due to medical reasons Amanda Abbington will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.
"Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week." Preparing to compete are Zara McDermott, Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi and Angela Scanlon. Also competing are Adam Thomas, Ellie Leach, Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman and Annabel Croft.
Meanwhile, Strictly fans were quick to react to the news about Amanda with one person writing: "Unfortunately due to illness Amanda & Gio will not be performing their Cha Cha tomorrow. #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly", while another follower wrote: "Amanda is sitting out #Strictly this week due to medical issues, should be back next week."
It comes as Amanda and Giovanni scored 31 points last week for their Foxtrot to the Fleetwood Mac song Everywhere, finishing high on the leaderboard. The duo were due to perform the Cha Cha Cha to Canned Heat by Jamiroquai this Saturday night.
