A man was left stunned after he bagged $10million when he let a shop worker choose his fate by allowing him to pick a random scratch card.

Brent Young struggled to decide on what game to play so gave the staff member the reins at Prince Food & Gas in the city of Visalia, California. Young said he "didn't care" as his usual place of purchase was unexpectedly closed. The store clerk then handed him a ticket for the California 200X game and he purchased it.

But to his surprise, the scratch card happened to feature the top prize for the game. Young couldn't believe his luck when he scratched the ticket and saw $10,000,000 in bold numbers.

Speaking about his fortune, he said: "I had no choice but to go to Prince's. My usual stop was closed. If it had been open, none of this probably would have happened. I was like, just pick whichever one. I didn't care. It’s crazy. Out of all those options, the clerk could have picked a different game. But he didn’t. He grabbed a winner." Young opted to collect his prize as a lump sum of $5.8 million so he could pay less in federal taxes, reports ABC13. The owner of the store also scored a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Over in Massachusetts, a truck driver won a whopping $1million just two weeks before his retirement. Paul Bashaw, 65, won't have to stress about his pension anymore. He purchased a $20 ticket at J&J Variety convenience store in West Boylston. He is said to have spent the last two weeks working for his company without informing his co-workers about the big win. The retiree plans to go travelling with some of the money. He took home a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. “I told my wife there were three things in life I never thought I’d see happen,” he told lottery officials. “The Patriots winning the Super Bowl, getting a hole-in-one - that happened five years ago - and hitting the lottery. Now I’ve hit all three.”
