Amy Dowden admitted her heart is "broken" having to watch Strictly Come Dancing from the side lines amid her cancer battle.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional appeared on Loose Women today, where she chatted to panellists Nadia Sawalha, Denise Welch, Judi Love and Jane Moore on the ITV lunchtime show. Back in June, she underwent a single mastectomy, four weeks after her diagnosis of grade three aggressive breast cancer and has since had multiple complications including sepsis and blood clots.

On Loose Women today, she admitted that it was heartbreaking watching the show and "would give anything to be there right now" with the cast and crew. Whilst she knows she has to be patient, she wishes she could get back on the dancefloor.

Amy also explained how Strictly Come Dancing saved her life, as its what took her on a Coppafeel trip with Giovanna Fletcher - the wife of her former Strictly partner Tom Fletcher - and ultimately led her to check her breasts.

Speaking to The Mirror previously, Amy recalled when she fell gravely ill and rushed herself to hospital, with it later being confirmed as sepsis. She was told by doctors if she continued not responding to treatment, her organs would shut down.

"I remember going into hospital and them telling me I had an infection, but the following day it got very bad, I was unresponsive to antibiotics for hours. My last memory is a load of doctors around me in the early hours of Sunday morning. On Monday a nurse explained I had gone into septic shock. They said my blood pressure was that low my vital organs would have started failing," she said.

"I had severely low blood pressure, a low heart rate, I wasn’t passing urine for 14 hours, my infection markers were at dangerous levels. I had three different types of antibiotics and I finally responded to the third type. We met the paramedics a week later and they said if I had gone to bed that night I might not have woken up the next morning."

She was told by her oncologist that she had just got unlucky, but in her second cycle of chemo, she suffered with blood clots due to complications caused by her port, fitted to a vein to help administer chemo drugs. She added: "I got blood clots, I ended up back in hospital. I had the chemo on the Thursday and ended up in hospital on the Monday until the Wednesday. My arm swelled up and went purple and I was really short of breath. So I was rushed back in. It was frightening, too. I’m on blood thinners now for six months."
