When you get married, it's supposed to be to someone you want to spend the rest of your life with and can see yourself building a life with. And while one woman believed that's exactly what she was getting when she tied the knot with her husband four years ago, his shocking four-word admission changed everything.

The anonymous woman said she married her husband one year before the Covid-19 pandemic, and they've been together for a total of five years, during which time she's supported him through a leukaemia diagnosis, financial issues, and mental health struggles. Her husband even told her he was "proud" of them for weathering the storms and coming out stronger than ever instead of breaking apart.

But things changed when the woman overheard her husband telling his mate that she's "not his dream girl" - and that he doesn't believe she loves him as much as some of his former partners have. In a post on Reddit, the woman explained her husband's friend isn't the luckiest when it comes to love, so her spouse often has to console him when his relationships come to an end. And it was during one of these talks that he made the confession about his own marriage.

Detailing the background of her relationship, the woman said: "A few years ago he was diagnosed with cancer which devastated him. I went through the five stages of grief as well but wanted to get him as much help as I could and vowed to be his rock so, I scheduled his doctor's appointments, took time off of work to go with him, and supported us financially. I tried my best to make his life as comfortable as I could while he grieved.

"Our marriage has not been easy by far. He got his diagnosis, and then we dealt with major financial issues … he also began to suffer from an ED, which was another big hit health and ego-wise. I tried my best to keep his spirits up, even though it was hard on me as well. I wanted to see him happy and smiling and content with his life. However, it was like one hit after the other.

"But through all of this, he said that we weathered the storm and stayed married when other couples wouldn't be able to. He told me he was proud of us, and I also felt proud. We were strong and so was our marriage. He would tell me all the time that I'm his dream girl."

However, the woman recently heard her husband telling his friend that she's actually not his "dream girl" at all, despite everything she has given up for him and all that she's helped him through. She added: "That broke my heart … because I really thought I had been …

"I have done everything to help him. I've been there through his highs and his lows. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've moved states for him so he could chase his dream. I have made every doctor's appointment and was at every single one of them asking questions on what to do so I could keep him in this life longer. And he so casually says 'she's not my dream girl, and she hasn't been the best one to love me.'"

Commenters on the post were devastated on the woman's behalf, as many said they couldn't believe her husband would say that about her after all she's done for him. One wrote: "That's a massive slap to the face after all you have done for him. I would be devastated."

While another said: "I am sorry this happened. That had to have really hurt your heart. He has seemingly taken all your sacrifices and efforts for granted," but a third tried to see: Talk to him about what you overheard. He might have been trying to make his friend feel better by saying his life isn’t perfect. I know he hurt your feelings but talk to him.
