The younger of two British sisters who were said to be missing after the Hamas' incursion into Israel has been killed, their family has said.

Family members confirmed Yahel, 13, was murdered along with her mother Lianne, while her sister Noiya, 16, and her father are still missing. Their family said Noiya and Yahel were kidnapped from Be'eri, a kibbutz in southern Israel, after it was stormed by militants, and taken across the border into Gaza. It was confirmed that their mother Lianne, who was British and born in Bristol, was murdered in the attack on October 7.

Yahel's family said in a statement to BBC News: "Beautiful Yahel. A bundle of unbridled energy and joy, with a cheekiness that you could not help but smile at and a brain which was sharp as a tack. Full of adventure and mischief, we will forever miss her, but are grateful for the light she brought into our lives in the too short time she was with us."

It comes as a Foreign Office minister vowed Britain is doing "everything" possible to save up to 10 British hostages being held by Hamas. Andrew Mitchell said the Government is "extremely concerned about the fate and the state" of the missing Britons after six citizens were confirmed to have died in the attack on Israel.

He also said Israel has a "moral" responsibility to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza as the Rafah border crossing with Egypt on which hopes had been pinned remains closed. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told the Commons on Monday that he fears some of the missing are dead as he called for the immediate release of the around 200 hostages.

Meanwhile aid into Gaza remains blocked at the border with Egypt as governments and humanitarian groups called for food, water and fuel to be allowed into the region amid fears citizens could starve and hospitals would run out of electricity. Local media reported Israel carried out air strikes on the Rafah crossing, Gaza's only connection to Egypt, as mediators tried to reach a ceasefire deal to help people leave.

In a Commons statement on Monday, Mr Sunak said he recognised the Palestinian people are "victims of Hamas too" as he announced an extra £10 million of aid funding. British officials have been pressing for Egypt to open the Rafah crossing with Gaza to allow aid in and Britons, dual nationals, as well as their spouses and children, to flee.

However, expectations in Government for opening the crossing were understood to be very low on Monday. Mr Sunak raised the border crossing in a call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi last week, and it is understood that opening the border for foreign nationals and for Palestinian refugees could be treated separately.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "We do think it is important, both in the interests of British nationals and others, but also important for the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza." The United Nations and global aid agencies have expressed alarm about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, after Israel ordered civilians to evacuate the north ahead of an imminent attack.

According to Medical Aid for Palestinians, more than 1,000 people are still missing under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli air strikes on Gaza. The World Health Organisation has reiterated its call for humanitarian aid access into Gaza, saying on X (formerly Twitter): "The lives of many critically ill and fragile patients hang in the balance."
