'My wife went behind my back to give our baby awful name I'd vetoed'
Picking the perfect name for your firstborn child can be quite the challenge. And what happens if your partner falls in love with a particular moniker that you simply cannot stand? That's what happened to one man recently, who also discovered his wife had gone behind his back.
The 25-year-old and his 23-year-old wife are set to welcome their first baby, who is due to be born in the next couple of weeks. To make the process of picking a name easier, they chose to find out the gender of their child and discovered they are expecting a little boy.
With that in mind, they sat down together to make a list of potential names for their son. And, as he revealed on Reddit, it didn't go to plan. He explained: "Almost all of the names she suggested were normal, until the one that caused me to write this post. She suggested we name our son Mune. She told me the name was from this movie she watched when she was younger and that it always stuck with her.
"I told her the name was a little out there and he would get made fun of for it. She claimed he wouldn't and we started going back and forth trying to decide whether to add the name to the list or not. Eventually she agreed to keep the name off the list, we picked some that we liked, and I thought that was that."
But that wasn't the end of it. Some time later, her mum threw them a baby shower where they were presented with gifts including nappies and bottles. And then they opened the mum's gift. It was a blue handmade blanket - and it has been embroidered with the name 'Mune'. To keep the peace, the man kept quiet and waited until they had arrived back home before confronting his wife.

"She got defensive and told me that it was a good name and that I was overreacting about it. I brought up the earlier points and told her it was a stupid name for a kid and if she wanted to name something Mune so bad she could use the name for a dog. She got upset and called her mum to come get her. After she left she called me and told me she wouldn't be coming back for awhile. Everyone I've talked to about this has said I'm not the a*****e, but now that my wife has been gone and I've been thinking about it, I feel like I could have handled the situation better?"
But the Reddit community was in agreement. "You know, I'm never for a father naming a kid behind a mother's back.... unless the mother is thinking of using Mune for the baby's name. Mune??? MUNE?????? And please op, don't let her name the dog that either. I've already got second-hand embarrassment for any future male she might name Mune. It sounds like something gross that you find in a hankie during flu season. NTA. At all. Mune is every bit of awful"
A second remarked: "This is a child, not a goldfish. There are consequences and repercussions to choosing a name that is very unusual to begin with.... To go behind the other parent's back and tell a grandparent what the name is going to be, that is unacceptable."
And a third concluded: "Omg Mune is one of the most absolutely awful names I've ever heard. It's just ugly. I would veto it too. But even if it were an amazing name, it's still a no of both parents don't agree. The wife is being completely unreasonable here."
