Edwards has already made feelings clear on Man Utd role amid Ratcliffe links
Former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards reportedly has no appetite to take on a similar role after his return to football was confirmed last month.
Edwards enjoyed a hugely successful 11-year spell at Anfield before resigning from his post at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. It was confirmed last month that he would be returning to football in an advisory role.
Unsurprisingly, a whole host of top clubs have been credited with an interest in his services during his time away from the game - and Manchester United have emerged as his latest suitors, with a new report from The Athletic outlining that his name has been discussed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is aiming to purchase a minority stake in the club.
The Ineos chief will take control of all football matters if his proposal for a 25 percent stake of United is ratified and appointing a new sporting director is a priority. But while Edwards' name may have already cropped up in discussions, it remains to be seen if an approach over such a role would successful.
In a previous report last month, it was outlined that Edwards would be a non-executive director of Ludonautics, an advisory service launched alongside Liverpool's former director of research Ian Graham.

It was also explained that Edwards is open to taking another permanent role on alongside those duties, however, he is unlikely to accept another sporting director role in the future after reuniting with Graham.

Other candidates for the role include Paul Mitchell, who held a similar position at Monaco. He is based in Manchester and is looking for a new challenge after previous spells with Tottenham, Southampton and RB Leipzig.
Dan Ashworth of Newcastle and Jean-Claude Blanc are the other two names mentioned by the report. The latter became CEO of Ineos' sporting empire last December and oversee the company's exploits in football, rugby, Formula 1, cycling and sailing.
While personnel changes are expected under Ratcliffe, the job of Erik ten Hag is believed to be safe - even though the Dutchman has overseen Manchester United's worst start to a season in 37 years.
