Strictly star Angela Scanlon has told how she is determined to be body confident on the show - to set an example for her daughters.

The TV presenter, 39, who has kids Ruby and Marnie with husband Roy Horgan, said she wants to show them she is proud of who she is. And she is so committed that she has even refused the ballroom fake tan.

Angela said this week: “I suppose I am quite body confident, (but) more in a defiant way. “I know people have talked about the fact that I’m not wearing fake tan, that’s because I think it’s important to lean in to who you are and what you have.

“As the mum of two girls, what I want for them is to be comfortable in their own skin, whatever that might look like. “So if I don’t show that or portray it, I can’t ever expect them to really embody that or feel that. “So yeah, I guess I’m quite committed to doing my thing.”

Angela, who performed a Viennese Waltz to Calum Scott and Leona Lewis track You Are The Reason with Carlos Gu tonight, went on to admit she has to channel an alter ego while performing - as she looks like “a donkey in a barn” during rehearsals. But she said she has found the process “really liberating.”

She went on: “We’ve not named my alter ego yet, but there are so many actors here and I’ve been watching them over the past few weeks thinking: ‘Oh wow.’ “You can work on your feet, but if you look like a deer in the headlights it kind of kills the vibe.

“But it is totally liberating. I’m kind of fierce in my own way, and there’s definitely a light and shade. There’s lots of different sides to me, and it’s been really quite nice to be able to explore those.”
