Prince William and Kate's relationship has played out, as many may say, 'like a fairytale'. From the infamous royal wedding, introducing us to George, Charlotte, and Louis for the first time on the steps of the Lindo Wing, or pushing each other through royal engagements, there's a lot to unpack in their 12 years of marriage.

Like all lengthy relationships, embarrassing nicknames start to take over from the once loved-up and soppy monikers and it seems the royals are no different. Kate's hilarious name for Prince William has been uncovered, although it's not one she'd dare use in public.

The latest glimpse into the non-public side of their life is uncovered in Tom Quinn's new book, Guilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family. Interviews with palace staff give readers a peek into the pair's life behind closed doors as well as insight into their relationship that's not been on show before.

It's here where we get a look at the amusing banter between the royal couple, it details an amusing reference used by Kate to get William's attention. Highlighted in Marie Claire, the book mentions the couple's pet names and while Kate does opt for the popular 'babe' term there's one name she reportedly uses to poke fun at her husband.

Showing that their relationship is just as fun-poked as anyone else's the Duchess takes a comical dig at her husband's hair, using the nickname 'baldy'. While William takes a gentler approach, referring to his wife as 'babykins' or 'Duchess of Doolittle' a joke shared between the couple in reference to the late Queen Elizabeth II's remarks about her not having a career before they got married.

Quinn continued to say that the Wales' are keen for the public to know that their relationship is just like anybody else's. He said: "They want to be seen as an ordinary couple with the same stresses of having children, work, and everything else that life brings."

And another side to relationships, arguments, is also something the couple has in common with a lot of other spouses and partners. As Quinn highlighted in an interview with Fox News Digital saying: "Someone at the palace told me about the nicknames they have for each other. But it's not all sweetness.

"They have terrible rows where they throw things at each other. Kate might seem to be a very calm person, and William also. But it’s not always true. Because the big stress for William and Kate is that they're constantly surrounded by [palace aides]. It's like a Jane Austen novel."
