Melt away 'unhygienic' yellow mattress stains with natural remedy

Some stains on clothing and household items such as mattresses and pillowcases can feel impossible to remove. When you spot yellow marks on your bedsheet and covers, chucking the items into the wash seems like the only solution.

We all want our bedsheeds to stay gleaming white and looking fresh out the packet, but unfortunately sweat and body oils build up, leaving stubborn stains adn marks. The yellow stains often leaves a foul odour making it unhygienic to sleep on, which can then escalate into a build-up of bacteria and even mould growth if they're not washed correctly. So how do you get rid of these stains? The simple trick is to use vinegar.

According to an expert, white vinegar, containing hydrogen peroxide and water, is one of the best products on the market to help remove the stains. Rebecca Swain, mattress expert from Winstons Beds said: "Yellow stains are a burden for many homeowners as they’re difficult to remove and can make a bed unhygienic to sleep on.

"Not cleaning the stains can lead to bacteria growth and even cases of mould if they're not given a deep clean. White vinegar and limes are budget-friendly ways to remove the stains so you're not left having to throw away an entire bed set, or even worse the mattress."

The acidity in white vinegar can help get rid of yellow stains from bedding and mattresses. When putting duvet covers and pillowcases in the wash, add three cups of white vinegar to achieve a fresh and stain-free finish.

Another method includes soaking bedsheets overnight after washing the items in hot, soapy water beforehand. the experts also suggests people use a mixture of washing up liquid, hot water and baking soda and scrub the stains with a microfibre cloth.

She also advises people to wash every three weeks which can also help to remove more stubborn yellow marks. Pillowcases should be washed every week or two to make them more hygienic to sleep on.
