Strictly Come Dancing's Adam Thomas in stitches watching back Mario impression

Strictly Come Dancing's Adam Thomas was mortified as he watched back his Mario impression from his performance during Movie Week.

The Waterloo Road actor, 35, and his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk performed the Jive to A-Ha's Take On Me and dressed up as Mario and Luigi. They started their dance sitting in a Mario Kart-style go-kart as Adam made hilarious noises while trying to impersonate the popular video game character.

On Friday evening, Adam and Luba appeared on It Takes Two to discuss their experience on the show and host Fleur East took the opportunity to replay Adam's funny attempt at voicing the Italian plumber. "We wanted to talk about your commitment to the character," the host said.

"I think you need to take a look at this. We were impressed," she said before turning to look at the screen. After watching the clip, Adam could be heard hysterically laughing as he tried to process that people could hear him copying Mario's catchphrases in a high-pitched voice.

"What was I doing? I didn't know I was doing that," he said while looking mortified. Fleur asked: "Did you pre-rehearse that shot?" Adam quickly responded loudly: "Clearly not." It comes after Adam revealed who he thinks is his biggest rival in this year's dancing competition.

He has said that he has his eye on all of the other contestants but it is a former Love Islander that he thinks is his biggest competition. The 35-year-old said: "Everyone. I feel like the standard is so high this year! My competition I think is Zara. I think we are both on the same level so far anyway, so the only one I am going to try and beat is Zara."

Despite being thrown in the deep end after having no dance experience behind him, Adam is already friends with a number of his fellow contestants. When asked if he knows any other celebs taking part, he said: "Nigel Harman, I grew up watching him and he was definitely a big inspiration of mine."

The actor continued: "I remember watching him as a kid and thinking he was a cool guy. I know Ellie Leach, she was obviously in Coronation Street and she is from Manchester, and she is like a little sister and a joy as well. Having a familiar face on the show makes it easier."

Adam has been taking part in the competition while dealing with rheumatoid arthritis -which is a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints.
