A man has found himself in dire straits after his apartment was overrun by bedbugs, forcing him to discard most of his belongings.

The situation has left him with no bed, no storage, and the unfortunate reality of living out of "trash bags" in Brooklyn, New York

Jeremy Lister was already facing financial difficulties before the bedbug infestation and took a courageous step by reaching out for help through a heartfelt video message he uploaded on YouTube. He shared his story, detailing the challenges he faced due to the bedbug invasion and loss of his belongings.

He explained that he has undergone multiple treatments to address the bedbug problem but has had to part with the majority of his possessions. With a fundraiser, he pleads for help securing a month's worth of rent and bills, along with a modest sum to purchase essential furnishings to store his remaining clothes.

"I need help getting back on my feet," Jeremy said in the fundraiser. "I'm asking for assistance in getting a month of rent and bills paid, plus a little extra to buy some furnishings to put my remaining clothes in. My target is $3,000, and any help toward that goal is appreciated."

He added: "I was already struggling financially before my apartment got infested with bedbugs and I had to throw out most of the things I owned. I now have no bed or storage and am living out of trash bags."

People have rallied around Jeremy, offering words of encouragement and support. A man named Jacob Aldridge, who donated $100 wrote in the GoFundMe page: "Much love to you brother."

Another woman who donated under the name Jessica Mater, wrote: "It was maybe 15 years ago at this point, but I will always remember when you comforted me that day at Clyde’s when I received horrible news. I hope that you reach your goal and am glad that it can be my turn to offer you some support this time around."

The common bed bug is a pest that takes over homes, feeding on blood, causing itchy bites and generally irritating their human hosts. They are notoriously hard to get rid of, often requiring multiple visits from the exterminators and even then they can still persist, as Marc found out.

Jeremy's fundraiser, created in late August, has collected $4,280 surpassing the $3,000 target. The story comes as another man named Marc Dambrot has described the terror of waking up with bedbug bites on his 'private parts' after the little critters invaded his family's rented home.

Marc Dambrot and his family moved into the house in Manassas, Virginia, and the nightmare started straight away. "Literally the day after" he and his brother, Travis, woke up covered in bites. A fundraiser, set up by Marc, explains the ongoing nightmare he and his brother have been stuck in dealing with the bed bug fiasco.

Also, the landlord wasn't exactly helpful, Marc claimed. He wrote: "My brother immediately contacted the landlord, and he said we must have brought them in because the previous tenants never complained about bed bugs. For that month, he refused to send an exterminator or anyone else. My brother sent text after text, and my mom wrote him a letter. He said we were on our own."
