Big Brother Hallie's mum speaks out on Farida's 'awkward' transgender questions
Big Brother star Hallie's mum has spoken out following housemate Farida questioning her daughter about being transgender.
It comes after emotional scenes on Tuesday night's episode where Hallie gathered her fellow housemates to tell them she is transgender. The 18-year-old youth worker said: "I just thought I’d make that loud and clear. I’m a trans woman if you didn’t know." The other contestants showed their support to Hallie, as Farida and Trish then told the teen they've "got her". However, further comments from Farida left viewers branding it an "awkward grilling".
The 50-year-old was curious to know whether men who fancies Hallie or "got with" her were considered to be gay. Hallie responded: "I won't have sex until I have my full transition. There's men out there who specifically like trans women, and there's men out there that will just see me as a woman, and just be with me as a woman." Hallie's mum Samantha appeared on the spin off show Big Brother Late & Live where she said her daughter "handled it so well".

Some people don't know." Samantha didn't criticise Farida for her questioning, and noted upon entering the house that she wanted to learn new things. "Farida said when she was walking into the house that she wants to learn things, she wants to teach her own faith and culture," she added.
"[Hallie has] handled it so well. She's coming out just being herself and it's lovely for the whole world to know the real Hallie that I know. She's very grown-up. She's had to grow up fast. I had to bring her up fast to comply with the world that she's going to be brought up in because of being trans."

On Tuesday night, Hallie spoke to other housemates about the conversation, telling them that Farida had been "confused" by her response. "When Farida said to me, 'if a man was to be with you does that make them gay?' I was like no I'm a woman, they like me like I'm a woman. She was all confused," she explained.
Describing Farida's questions as "frustrating" she continued: "I was like, you need to chill out babe. If that made them gay I would be a man." In a bid to make amends, Farida later returned to Hallie to explain her line of questioning was out of simple curiosity and saw it as an opportunity to learn. "The thing is that I don't believe in bullying," she said, "I was just curious because I feel it's my first opportunity... it's a social experiment being in here. Different people celebrating their culture and what they're about."
Following the show fans took to X (formerly Twitter ) to discuss Farida and Hallie's chat. Backing Hallie up, one penned: "What Hallie’s saying is great and I applaud her honesty but Farida has the wrong idea here and she clearly doesn’t know so much." Another commented: "So much respect to Hallie for having a mature convo with Farida." And a third said: "Very awkward convo, but I don't see any ill intent in Farida asking Hallie questions she clearly stated she'd like to be educated and Hallie said she was open to discussing it!"
