Harry's bombshell at Eugenie's wedding sparked 4-word reply from amazed William

Princess Eugenie dazzled as she walked down the aisle exactly five years ago today to marry husband Jack Brooksbank. The now mum-of-two enjoyed a grand wedding at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle and all the royals were there including close pals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales. It was a rare family get-together for the Firm and the Sussexes were eager to share some news.

Just five months after their wedding, they were expecting their first child, and writing in Spare Harry recalls how they decided to use the various family gatherings associated with cousin Eugenie's big day to tell their relatives their happy news. And he also reveals what his brother Prince William's reaction was when he was told he was going to be an uncle.

Harry writes that he decided to tell William after a drinks reception in St George's Hall when he and Meghan pulled him aside - and the heir to the throne straight away gave a four-word response. He explains: "We whispered the news and Willy smiled and said 'we must tell Kate'. She was across the room talking to Pippa. I said we could do it later, but he insisted.

"So we went and told Kate and she also gave us big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I'd hoped - as I'd wished."

Meghan gave birth to Prince Archie in seven months later in May 2019 at the private Portland Hospital in London the couple broke from tradition and decided not to pose for the traditional 'hospital steps' royal photos. However, Harry gave a spontaneous interview outside Windsor Castle shortly after Archie was born, praising his wife. He said: "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy. I haven't been at many births. This is definitely my first birth - it was amazing, absolutely incredible. I'm so incredibly proud of my wife. And as every father and parent would say, your baby is absolutely amazing."

Despite what might seem like a faux pas announcing a pregnancy at a wedding, Harry and Meghan are said to have remained close to Eugenie and husband Jack - despite the frostiness between the Sussexes and other members of the Royal Family.

Tensions between Harry and Meghan and the royals have remained high - especially in the wake of Harry's memoir Spare, where he was highly critical of William, his father the King and Queen Camilla. But according to a source, his relationship with his younger cousins Beatrice and Eugenie is still strong. The insider told PEOPLE: "They're still the best of friends and talk constantly. This whole drama between him and Meghan and the rift with the rest of the family has been really stressful for the girls. It’s hard to watch because they see both sides of it."

It appears that the bond between Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie has been a long-shared one that goes way back to when they were children. Both their mothers, the late Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson, were close friends, who spent a lot of time together. They even went on holiday together with the children also tagging along, forming the basis of the bond.

As they grew older, the royal cousins hit the London club scene together and they were regulars at the popular London club, Mahiki, sneaking in the back entrance. However, insiders said that of all of the late Queen's grandchildren, Harry and Eugenie had the "most natural connections" and are the "closest of friends".
