Barcelona launch Arsenal transfer raid as Jesus discloses Arteta talks

Arsenal are riding high following a storming start to the season, with only Tottenham above them in the table.

But even though we are only eight games into the new season, it is not too early to look ahead to the January transfer window. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta may be feeling nervous about the return of transfer business, with some of his fringe players set to attract interest.

Barcelona are already lining up a raid, which comes as attacker Gabriel Jesus opened up on talks he has held with Arteta over his position in the team. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Arsenal news.

Barca eye Jorginho raid

Barcelona are weighing up a move for Jorginho, who has struggled for game-time since arriving in January. With Declan Rice having arrived in the summer, Jorginho has been edged out to the sidelines.

The Italian has only started one game in the Premier League this term after dropping down the pecking order. Now, Barca are ready to offer him a exit route out of the Emirates Stadium.

Boss Xavi is keen to boost his options in midfield and has added Jorginho to his shortlist for the position. Joshua Kimmich, Thiago Alcantara and Guido Rodriguez are also on the Spanish champions' radar.

Webb admits Man City error

PGMOL chief Howard Webb has admitted that Mateo Kovacic should have been sent off during Arsenal's win over Manchester City. Kovacic put in a dreadful tackle on Rice just moments after being booked, but referee Michael Oliver decided against showing him a second yellow.

"I do," Webb said when asked if Kovacic was lucky to stay on the pitch. "Obviously VAR can't get involved for second yellows. I think he was extremely fortunate to stay on. Michael Oliver is one of our best referees and one of the best in the world and he will no doubt review that.

"I think when he reflects on it, he will realise the second one should have been a second yellow and Kovacic should have been sent off. The first decision was borderline and Kovacic had the benefit of that."

Jesus discloses Arteta talks

Gabriel Jesus has opened up on the talks he held with Mikel Arteta ahead of his move to Arsenal. The Brazilian has revealed that he "made it clear" he wanted to play as a No.9 when he joined from Manchester City.

"When I chose to move from City to Arsenal, Edu and Arteta spoke to me, and I made it clear that I'd like to play 9. That was Arsenal's idea, for me to play 9, loose. This season has been different, we've had injuries and in the last few games I've played three up front," he said.

"For a while, I thought I'd just say I wanted to play 9, but I'm here to help the team. I'm blessed by God to have this talent and the versatility to play in all three forward positions. I prefer not to choose."
