The first shopping task of Big Brother 2023 has been revealed, and it's likely to cause quite a stir in the camera-studded household.

The 20th series of the ITV2 reality show premiered on Sunday, introducing the nation to 16 contestants all competing for the grand prize of £100,000. Hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, the new Big Brother has been promised to offer a diverse lineup of housemates and some refreshing real conversations. It has confirmed that many of the show's original features, including its intense evictions, will also be back.

On Wednesday night's episode, the housemates will be tasked with their first shopping task of the series - and they've been set some strict guidelines to accomplish it. Big Brother has revealed that the house will be turned into a global company called Big Bros Ltd, with contestants being divided up into three categories of different levels.

Henry, Yinrun and Trish have been appointed as the Big Wigs, and as heads of the organization, will dress in corporate uniforms and work in the office upstairs. As part of their duties, they must select five contestants to become Middle Management, who will run the business on ground level, and the remaining eight to be Bottoms, who will do whatever they're told.

T‌o ensure the contestants are clear on what they have to do, they will be required to line-up behind desks in the lounge where Big Brother will deliver clear instructions. ‌

"Over the next two days, you will be taking part in a series of tasks around the office in an effort to win a luxury shopping budget. If you fail to pass, you will receive an economy budget for the week," they explain. "From this point on, Big Brother is CEO and you are all my employees.”

The task will see most of the food removed from the house and the Big Wigs dine on luxury meals. Meanwhile, the Bottoms will have to contend with basic rations.

Shopping tasks have always been a source of entertainment on Big Brother, with the 2010 series perhaps delivering one of the show's most memorable grocery challenges. For the house's seventh weekly shopping task, contestants had their concentration pushed to the limits in a game of 'Ignore the Obvious'.

The challenge involved them having to do the food buying task while being bombarded with a litany of distractions, which included a surprise performance from Jedward singing their new song, 'All the Small Things'. They also had to contend with music from a brass brand, an estate agent giving a tour of the house to potential buyers and tourists taking photos of their abode. Voiceover artist Marcus Bentley even made a physical appearance, much to the delight of viewers at home.

Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
