People are in stitches after discovering an old article that predicted what David Beckham would look like in 2020.

The story, which first appeared in an edition of Four Four Two in 1998, reveals a rather unflattering image of the footballer, now 48, with missing teeth, grey thinning hair, and lots of wrinkles.

The picture, later edited for the article, was taken during his days playing for Manchester United. Following the Beckhams' new tell-all Netflix documentary, the bizarre photo has resurfaced and people have taken to Facebook to share their surprise.

The cheeky caption at the time read: "Things went distinctly pear-shaped for the Manchester United starlet after his club missed out on the 1998 championship and he lost his entire personal fortune."

"Now well into his forties, he is reduced to appearing for England's veterans teams alongside his fellow Fergie fledglings and reminiscing wistfully about his glory days. Posh Spice, who has ballooned to 20st since her singing career collapsed, now models clothes for "the larger lady."

A shocked fan said "how wrong were they" while another simply added "As if!" Some Beckham admirers gushed over his current appearance, arguing he looks better than ever. One person wrote: "He is like a fine wine gets better with age" and another added: "He is a very attractive man!!"

It comes after David and released his new documentary on Netflix a week ago. The four-part series follows the life and career of David Beckham and his wife Victoria as he became a global phenomenon due to his football career and many brand deals.

The ex-England Captain retired from playing professional football a decade ago. Now 48, the new Netflix series is the first time David and Victoria have publicly opened up about allegations he had cheated on her with former personal assistant Rebecca Loos when he played for Real Madrid back in the early Noughties.

Wife Victoria also revealed how she told David she was pregnant with their first child, Brooklyn, the night before his infamous red card moment in the 1998 World Cup, which saw him sent off for kicking the back of another player's leg during the England game against Argentina.

In the docuseries, David detailed the horrific abuse he got from the British public as a result of the match, which included being called names everywhere he went, spat at in the street, and confronted by riled football fans. He shared how he had been "clinically depressed" until he became a national hero again when his goal against Greece at Old Trafford secured England a play in the 2002 World Cup.
