Fed-up homeowner puts up savage sign to Halloween trick-o-treaters

Whether you love it or hate it, you can expect keen trick-o-treaters roaming the streets on October 31 dressed up in their best scary outfits.

Opening the door to children you recognise from your neighbourhood all dressed up can be fun whilst giving them a handful of treats, although, you wouldn't expect to get a knock on the door from strangers trick-o-treating. One homeowner wanted to make sure parents from other suburbs didn't come knocking with their children and taking all of their treats - so they resorted to putting up an angry sign up ahead of the spooky evening.

They declared Halloween was cancelled due to the intruders

The sign criticised people who came to the suburb in the hunt for Halloween goodies and has caused a mixed debate online. The sign said that the intruders had "ruined" Halloween for the locals and although unclear who it belonged to, it was shared on an Aussie Facebook page called Adventures of Couponista and declared that Halloween was cancelled.

It read: "Due to the fact that people from other neighbourhoods truck their children into this neighbourhood by the dozens, this house will no longer be handing out lollies. Thank you for ruining Halloween for us and the children who actually live here. Thank you for understanding, now GO AWAY!" as reported by Kidspot.

People had a mixed response to the sign, however, most didn't agree with the disgruntled resident and said: "What if the kids live in suburbs that are unsafe for them to trick-or-treat? Should Halloween be ruined for them too? I don't see any issues with handing out lollies to kids who live in other suburbs. If you have been blessed with a nice/safe suburb, please spread the love to the kids who don't and give them a nice Halloween. Spend the few extra dollars on lollies and have fun!" and another mum added: "Our suburb is hilly and it's a challenge to push our kids (one in a wheelchair, one in a stroller) here to go trick-or-treating. So we go to another suburb where it's flat and the houses are close together. Makes it more enjoyable for all of us."
