Fans have voiced their concern for Madonna after the Queen of Pop was pictured with a "painful" swollen face.

The 65-year-old is known for her glamorous looks and chiselled cheekbones and she's rarely seen without a full face of makeup. However, fans couldn't believe how different the singer looked in a new video shared on social media. Madonna was seen with a much fuller face in the clip and she also decided to go makeup-free.

The Material Girl hitmaker had bleached her eyebrows and had a very full pout in the video. Fans shared their worries for the star, with one person writing: "Jesus what happened to her." Another said: "Her lips look painful."

Now, a consultant plastic surgeon suggested Madonna's fuller face is a result of her terrifying hospital stay earlier this year. She was rushed to hospital back in June with a serious bacterial infection and spent several days in ICU.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Reza Nassab said: "There seems to be some swelling of the face and lips. She was seen earlier in the year with significant changes to the facial appearance. She was recently admitted to ICU and sometimes patients may develop swelling or oedema for many different reasons. Her present appearance may be exaggerated following her recent hospital admission."

He also suggested that Madonna may have had a facelift procedure. Reza warned: "Anyone considering cosmetic surgery should be fully aware that there are always potential risks or complications. Patients will have a pre operative assessment to identify potential risks of issues that may arise postop."

Amish Patel, an award-winning aesthetics practitioner, believes Madonna may have had an allergic reaction which is what could be causing the puffiness in her face. He explained: "If an individual undergoes skin resurfacing or a harsh chemical face peel, this can result in some residual post-treatment swelling during the healing process."

Amish said it's unlikely that Madonna's change in appearance will be down to fillers. He told us: "In an overfilled face, otherwise known as 'pillow face', (a term coined from the influx of Hollywood celebrities who trended with overfilling a few years ago), we would typically see some contouring in the cheeks, but in this particular photo, we don't."
