Emmerdale fans were quick to react on Monday night as they instantly recognised newcomer Amit star Anil Goutam from EastEnders.
Amit made his debut on Monday night as the father of Jai and Suni Sharma headed to the village after a recent DNA bombshell. It comes after Suni found out Jai was his brother and not his cousin in a recent episode, after Suni's father had an affair with Jai's mother Georgia. Georgia fell pregnant, and Rishi Sharma helped her raise his brother's child, claiming Jai to be his own son.
Just months ago Jai discovered he was adopted and Rishi was not his biological dad, leading to the bombshell that his real dad was his uncle, Rishi's brother. Amit's arrival comes just months after the tragic death of Jai's father Rishi, with actor Bhasker Patel written out of the show after 12 years. Fans were devastated as Rishi was killed off in an unexpected twist just hours after he revealed the truth to Jai about his biological father.

Anil portrayed Ranveer Gulati on EastEnders in 2022 before his character was killed by Ravi Gulati, which has recently been a big focus on the BBC One soap. Taking to social media, one person said: "Hold up how is Ravi’s #EastEnders dead dad on #Emmerdale!"
A different account put: "Is that not the bloke that was murdered in #eastenders by Ravi #emmerdale" while another follower wrote: "Suni's dad....fresh out of Eastenders. He'll be playing the same nasty character, I'll wager #Emmerdale."

It comes as there could be troubling scenes ahead as Amit apparently "has a dark side". Not only that, but he may develop a link with other existing characters on the ITV soap - that's if he doesn't already secretly know the mystery resident or residents.
Remaining coy about his village connections and what's to come, Amit star Anil recently teased a big secret could be on the way while he did not go into detail. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, former EastEnders star Anil teased "dark" scenes for his character, and hinted at big moments ahead.
Amit made his debut on Monday night as the father of Jai and Suni Sharma (ITV)Teasing what Amit is like, amid his involvement in the recent DNA twist that saw him confirmed as Jai's biological father, he told us: "I'm really pleased with how it's been written. There are lots of complexities in this guy and the writers have allowed that freedom and they actually spend time talking to me about the character and what my thoughts on it were, as well as their thoughts on him.
"So I guess he's the sort of person who you've only seen one aspect of him and he has a side to him. He's quite dark as he has a darker side to him, but not in his own mind. I don't think [he sees it] in his own mind. He does what he does to protect his family, but it's what he thinks is the right thing to do to protect his family. I think he can convince himself of pretty much anything being the right thing to protect his family."
