Brock Purdy joined an exclusive club after helping the San Francisco 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL.
The Niners recorded a 42-10 win over the Cowboys on Sunday night in Week 5 of the 2023 NFL regular season. Victory for Kyle Shanahan’s team meant that the Niners moved to 5-0 for the year and maintained their undefeated start to the season.
Purdy was crucial in the Niners, completing four touchdown passes for 252 passing yards with zero interceptions. The 23-year-old is in the early weeks of his second season in the NFL, after being drafted with the 262nd and final pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

As a result of being the final player selected in the draft, Purdy was handed the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant”, which goes to the player who has the same honour every year. But it seems that Purdy’s start to life in the NFL means he is far from living up to that nickname.

Purdy became the starting quarterback for the 49ers in the second half of the 2022 season, replacing the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, who would later leave to sign for the Las Vegas Raiders. During the time that Purdy has been on the field, he has helped write himself into the history book with San Francisco.
The Niners have scored at least 30 points in their past eight regular season games with Purdy under center. That run stretches back to a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 16 of the 2022 NFL season
Since then, Purdy has helped the Niners reach a minimum of 30 points in every regular season game that has been played. In doing so, he joins a list of only three other quarterbacks to have achieved such a feat in the past.
The other three quarterbacks to do that were Kurt Warner - with the Los Angeles (formerly St. Louis) Rams in 1999-2000 across a 14 game stretch - and Peyton Manning with the Denver Broncos in 2012-13 for 11 games.
NFL legend Tom Brady achieved the feat twice during his two-decade-long career with the New England Patriots. Brady helped the Patriots reach the achievement from 2006-07 with nine games, as well as from 2010-11 with a 13-game run.
All three of those aforementioned quarterbacks would go on to be current or future members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Of course, it remains to be seen if Purdy will continue to have a career that sees him enter the Hall of Fame in the future, but the young quarterback is certainly enjoying an impressive start to life in the NFL.
