Martin Lewis has shared a hack which could help you save money on buying toys this Christmas.

Even though the weather may not feel like it, Christmas is approaching. As of writing, Christmas Day is only 77 days away. With the cost of living crisis once again putting pressure on household finances, many Brits will be looking at ways to save as much as they can in the festive period this year.

Martin Lewis noted this on his podcast last week explaining to listeners how they could save some money on toys if they looked into buying their presents earlier rather than closer to December - the savings could be as much as 50%.

He told listeners that some retailers and supermarkets - including Tesco, Morrisons, and Argos - offer "really cheap" prices on select toys before the run-up to Christmas. This is in order to get certain "toy stock out of the way",

Speaking on his podcast, the Money Saving Expert website founder, said: "Pre-Christmas preparations, we see the big supermarkets doing some really cheap toy sales in advance, to get some toy stock out of the way. We don't necessarily see the same discounts later.

"So savvy money savers who know what they want for their children often find these a really lucrative way to buy what they need at a much cheaper price." "This is a good time to see if they have what you want at a reduced price."

However, before spending, Martin encouraged shoppers to cross-check prices with other retailers to see if the discount is genuine.

The Money Saving Expert founders also shared a tip for buying beauty advent calendars. These types of advent calendars have become incredibly popular over the last few years. Specifically, these types of calenders offer 12 to 25 smaller versions of their popular products behind each door.

Martin revealed that Boots is selling their beauty advent calendars that did offer customers better value for money.

He said: "Three of them cost £55, but when we valued the contents inside there was over £200 worth of No7 in there. The ultimate calendar costs £150, but would cost £486 if you were to buy the items separately. You can rip them up and hand them out individually as presents, they're always popular with money savers."
