Dak Prescott delivered a worrying assessment of the Dallas Cowboys after a heavy defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.
Week 5 of the 2023 NFL regular season saw the Cowboys go on the road to Levi’s Stadium to face their NFC divisional rivals and the team responsible for ending their hopes in each of the last two season. However, despite Prescott's claims in the build-up, the game would turn into a big defeat for Dallas as the Niners ran out 42-10 winners.
San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy completed four touchdown passes with zero interceptions for 252 total passing yards. In contrast, Prescott had one passing touchdown but had three interceptions with 153 total passing yards.

The defeat saw the Cowboys fall to 3-2 for the season, and they have now lost two of their last three games after back-to-back wins to start the 2023 campaign. In contrast, the Niners maintained their undefeated record to become one of only two teams to move to 5-0, alongside the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now questions are beginning to be asked about the Cowboys Super Bowl chances and Prescott was honest with his assessment of the defeat at Levi’s Stadium and also referenced the Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
"Didn't see it coming," Prescott told reporters after the game, via . "Put everything into this and got punched in the mouth.
“Called [the Cowboys' loss] a couple weeks ago 'humbling' against Arizona, but this may be the most humbling game I've ever been a part of. Felt good about the preparation, felt good about everything, honestly, coming into this game, matchups, and they beat us in every aspect."
Prescott’s comments came after he stated in the week leading up to the game about learning from previous losses to the 49ers. Dallas were beaten by San Francisco in last season’s NFC divisional round match-up in the play-offs, and exited the post-season at the hands of the Niners the previous year in 2021.
Before the game, Prescott admitted that he needed to play better against the Niners in comparison to the previous two play-off games against the NFC West franchise. And judging by what would go on to transpire at Levi’s Stadium, it seems not many lessons were learned.
"When you go back and you turn on the tape, I wasn't my best in either of those games," Prescott told reporters Friday, via . "And when close to it, the last one, [we were] two, three plays away from winning that game and that game being a different score."
