They've been married for more than five years and are parents to two beautiful children after a whirlwind romance.

But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle admit some had doubts about their relationship - with even some of Harry's royal relatives wondering if their partnership would last. And the Duke of Sussex gave a two-word explanation of why some members of the Firm thought their union would be short-lived.

The Sussexes made the claims in their controversial Netflix series, which saw them make a number of claims about the likes of King Charles, Prince William and his wife Kate. In the second episode, the couple reminisce about Meghan being introduced to her new boyfriend's family for the first time.

Harry says that his family seemed "incredibly impressed" upon meeting Meghan for the first time and were probably surprised a "ginger could land such a beautiful woman". However, he accused the family of having their judgment clouded by Meghan being an 'American actress', with his wife adding that her then profession was "the biggest problem".

He explains: "I remember my family first meeting her being incredibly impressed. Some of them didn't quite know what to do with themselves (laughs). So I think they were. They were surprised. They were surprised that such a ginger could land such a beautiful woman. And such an intelligent woman.

"But the fact that I was dating an American actress, was probably what clouded their judgement more than anything else. Oh, she's an American actress, this won't last long. "

While Meghan added: "The actress thing was the biggest problem, funnily enough. There is a big idea of what that looks like from the UK standpoint - Hollywood - and it's just very easy for them to typecast that."

Tomorrow, Harry and Meghan are set to make a rare joint appearance when they return to New York City for a special event, which is set to clash with an important date in the diary of their royal rivals the Prince and Princess of Wales. The warring couples will both make appearances tomorrow to mark World Mental Health Day - although they will be on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The announcement of Harry and Meghan returning to the city where they claim they were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase in May, came hours after William and Kate revealed their plans.

On Tuesday, they will also mark World Mental Health Day with a forum for young people in Birmingham in conjunction with BBC Radio One. According to Kensington Palace, the event will bring together 100 youngsters to discuss how they manage their emotions and to talk about the mental health challenges their generation faces.

It will also mark the start of further engagements on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, which will highlight the importance of mental health with university students and emergency responders. Meanwhile, over in NYC, Harry and Meghan will host their first in-person Archewell Foundation event. The occasion will see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex provide a platform for parents to navigate mental health when it comes to the digital world.

Their appearance comes months after Harry and Meghan claimed to have been in a "near catastrophic car chase" in New York. In May, they released a statement following a public event at Ms Foundation for Women’s 50th-anniversary gala event, in which they were joined by Meghan's mum Doria Ragland.
