Love Island's Jess and Sammy arrive separately at Pride of Britain after split
Love Island winners Jess Harding and Sammy Root have walked the red carpet separately at the Pride of Britain awards on Sunday evening, just days after announcing their split.
The couple were crowned champions of the ITV dating series in July 2023, beating runner-ups Whitney and Lochan for the coveted title and £50,000 cash prize. Unfortunately, their romance been short-lived, with Sammy confirming that they'd separated after just three months in an emotional Instagram update last week.
"I thought I would come online to address today's news about me and Jess. Yes we had a private conversation regarding our relationship but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven't had a chance to speak in person," the 22-year-old wrote on his Stories. "To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face-to-face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward.

I was committed and respectful of our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped. Despite how this has all played out today. I think Jess is an amazing woman and genuinely wish her all the best."
Jess, who was in Ibiza on a girls' trip when the news of the split first hit headlines, has also addressed the collapse of her relationship with Sammy. In a recent Q&A with her followers on Instagram, the 22-year-old admitted she was "sad" over the breakup but decided against giving any concrete details.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundaries
"It's been over a week now since we split so I'm getting there. We shared a once-in-a-lifetime experience together so of course I'm sad," she admitted. "I really don't want to go into detail by doing a big statement but we're just very different and behave differently and that's it."
The Daily Mirror Pride Of Britain Awards With TSB this evening will be hosted by Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo, with the two stars recently sharing their excitement at teaming up once again for the 24th annual event.
Carol has fronted the awards ever since 1999, with Dancing On Ice judge Ashley joining her side in 2021. The duo first met and formed a friendship thanks to Carol taking part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2016 alongside Ashley’s brother Jordan – and they’ve grown closer ever since.
“It just feels unique. You see the weight and the gravity of how the night affects not just the winners but everyone in the room. I look forward to it every year. It’s a real honour to get to do it,” Ashley said ahead of hosting the awards this evening, with Carol adding: “It’s just this sort of goodness that’s in the room that you rarely come across as a feeling. It’s gentle, kind and it’s all of the things that we want our lives to be.”
