Emmerdale fans left horrified as broken Lydia Dingle details rape ordeal
Lydia Dingle laid bare her harrowing rape ordeal as heartbreaking scenes left Emmerdale fans angry and emotional.
Tonight we saw tormented Lydia confide in friend Kim Tate but she fears she's left it too late for Craig to taste justice. She detailed how he manipulated the situation, saying because of their history that nobody would believe he had done anything wrong.
Craig and Lydia had bumped into each other after decades apart, not having seen each other since they were young teens. But viewers were horrified in recent scenes as Lydia was raped by a former flame in their office. They were sickened again after she candidly opened up to her friend after she found her crying by the road side.
Lydia broke down at the side of the road as Kim was quick to comfort her (ITV)"He made out like I wanted it - acted in impulse," she said after the returned to compassionate Kim's home. "He said that I couldn't help myself, that I had given into temptation. It's like he couldn't see what he had done. I went to the police, I was so scared of facing it. He told me nobody would believe me, because of our history. That I pretended to be someone else, that I was unstable.
Kim replied: "The other week, you must have been terrified." Lynda went on: "I was shaking. I tried again 'you raped me' - but he said I didn't, that I enjoyed it. He said if he was going to start raping people, who would I start with me?' Even you thought I had been cheating.

Kim told her: "I judged you by my own standards, jumped to conclusions. But I believe every word you say now. I won't be the only one." But heartbreakingly, she went on: "But as Craig said, if it really was rape them why did I keep it to myself for so long. It's too late."
Lydia fears it is too late to report her rapist (ITV)But she is now left with a huge decision - should she tell Sam. Lydia: "What if Sam believes I have cheated on him, with him. What do I do then?" Kim then urges her to tell him the truth. But she responds: "I can't... where do I even start?"
Viewers here horrified and one wrote on twitter: "If Kim Tate doesn't feed Craig his own b******s in #Emmerdale then you need to sack the writers. Kim Tate is ruthless and Lydia is her friend. Craig better be getting it!"
Another said: "Craig has been attacking women for years....Lydia is definitely not his first victim...and as Kim said...it's never too late to speak up #Emmerdale".
Craig and Lydia grew up in the same children's home years ago, and the friends slept together leading to Lydia, real name Jenny, falling pregnant aged 15. Lydia gave birth alone but tragically the baby, Toby, was stillborn. Realising her baby had died, Lydia buried him in a woodland and ran away.
As the pair got closer, Craig confessed his feelings to Lydia who was horrified and soon told him nothing could happen, and that she loved her husband Sam Dingle. But Craig cruelly ignored this and raped her, despite her telling him she did not want to sleep with him.
Since then Lydia has been in turmoil and has not told anyone about her rape ordeal. Craig has denied raping her and instead claimed it was consensual. With Lydia in a bad way, Craig has begun showing up at her house and harassing her to stop her exposing what he did to her.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
