Meghan Markle too 'thin-skinned' to make it in politics, royal biographer claims

Meghan Markle has tried various different careers from acting to podcasting, but there's one career that it seems she should stay away from - politics, according to a royal biographer.

Rumours have been swirling that Meghan has thought about going the political route at some point in her career. The buzz only got louder when California senator Diane Feinstein died earlier this week.

Her sad death left her senate seat open and the governor of her state, Gavin Newsom, had to choose someone to fill the seat. It eventually went to Democratic strategist Laphonza Butler, who will be the first LGBTQ+ senator of colour in the United States, but some people believed there was a long-shot possibility the seat would go to California resident Meghan.

There have also been reports that since she and her husband Prince Harry left their royal duties behind in 2020, Meghan has been cosying up to big named Democrats in the United States. President Joe Biden's sister, Valerie Biden Owens, has also reportedly said she'd support the Suits alum in a White House run.

But according to royal biographer Angela Levin any chance of Meghan running for a political position, and even winning one, would be "ludicrous." The expert shared her thoughts with Sky News Australia recently on why Meghan shouldn't get involved in a political lifestyle.

The Duchess of Sussex is "clinging" to her royal title "for dear life," the biographer claimed. If the actress chose to run for political office in either the United States or the United Kingdom, she might have to give up her title.

Angela, who penned Harry: A Biography of a Prince, also believes that Meghan isn't cut out for the cut-throat, intense political lifestyle. She said: "She’s got very, very thin skin."

But the more important reason would be her royal connection at stake. "She also would have to lose her titles as I believe Harry would as well," she added, "She’s clinging onto them for dear life, so I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that she’d ever get anything in parliament.”

The royal biographer seemed to not be able to wrap her head around Meghan joining any political ranking, let alone a national one. "It’s so ludicrous to think that she could just go in at a high level. I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that she’d ever get into parliament," she repeated.

With Meghan's recent Spotify deal falling through and her and Harry's future connection to Netflix unknown, another royal expert thinks that the actress is on the fence about what to do next. Professor Pauline Maclaran from the University of London told express.co.uk that Meghan's attachment to her royal title might be a part of her confusion.

"The royal title still seems to contribute to her sense of self and identity. I think it shows she hasn't got a clear direction," Pauline said.
