There are lots of horrendous household jobs that simply need to be done - cleaning the toilet, clearing blocked drains and ironing probably being among the worst for many people. But scrubbing a filthy oven clean has to top most grotty job lists.

Ovens by their very nature end up caked in fat and food that's been baked on and with Christmas round the corner, it's a good idea to get your oven sparkly clean before it has to cope with the mountain of food that needs to be cooked over the festive period.

There are plenty of cleaning products on the supermarket shelves claiming to restore your cooker to its original gleaming glory, as well as household heroes and natural products such as baking soda and vinegar but that also involves hours of elbow grease as you're bent over on your knees with your head stuck in the cooker.

However, followers of the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook have shared a top tip to help reduce the pain involved in cleaning your cooker and it involves one, inexpensive little tool.

According to the Express, one user was asking for help with the "baked on" grime that was on their oven when another follower recommended the instrument. They advised: "A hob scraper will have it off in minutes, no scrubbing".

Consisting of a plastic handle and blade, the humble hob scraper can reportedly remove the most burnt-on of stains, although it's recommended to tackle them as soon as possible as the longer they are left, the harder they will be to remove and damage can also occur to surfaces if spillages aren’t cleaned off in good time.

The best bit is the handy item is available from just £3.29 on Amazon, with higher end versions also available. Providing they are used as per the instructions, they won't scratch your oven and can be used on all cooker types, including ceramic and induction.

As well as cutting scrubbing time, they can also save money that would be spent on cleaning products and are also more environmentally friendly than harsh chemicals. They are small too, so are easy to store, unlike bulky bottles that clutter the space under kitchen sinks.

The tool was also suggested for another user who had spots of gloss on her laminate floor that she couldn't remove. In fact, they can be used for a variety of other tricky cleaning tasks, such as scraping wax or glue from surfaces.
