Hojlund admits Man Utd are in "crisis" after latest embarrassing defeat

Rasmus Hojlund has admitted that Manchester United are in "crisis" following their latest humiliating defeat.

United lost to Galatasaray on Tuesday night, the first time they have failed to claim a point from their opening two Champions League games in the competition's history. Hojlund scored twice, with the hosts going ahead after both of his goals.

But it was the Turkish side who were celebrating their first win of this year's group stages, plunging United into further trouble. It appears the worsening state of the club has not been lost on the first-team squad, with Hojlund insisting the team know they need to improve.

"It's hard to tell. I think we need to build a better togetherness and to build this confidence in the group again. Right now we need to improve together and stick together, that's the only way we can get out of this crisis," the striker told CBS Sports.

"You can say so [a lack of confidence]. It's about being proud and fighting for the badge. We need to deliver more and deliver more to our fans and give more back to the club."

While Hojlund revealed his delight at bagging a brace against Galatasaray, he has not lost sight of the amount of work United still have to do. The Denmark international insisted that his side have to tighten up at the back.

"We need to remember we can't [concede] goals right after we score. We [have] had a few games now where they just score, after we scored. So we want to go back and analyse that tomorrow and talk about it in the group," he told MUTV.

"And of course, it's a tough period now, but we need to stick together and that's the only way we can get out of this period. It's about getting in there, for me. I always try to get into the the dangerous positions.

"I've been bought to be scoring goals and now I was happy that I got two more down today. But again if we talk about Marcus. He [now] knows that I can keep up with his pace when we go on the counter, and we saw a glimpse of that today."

Boss Erik ten Hag hailed his star striker for his two goals, though admitted the 20-year-old was still left disappointed. And the United manager blasted his side for losing their focus and allowing Galatasaray to turn around the deficit.

“He played a very good game and he was a threat all the way through. He scored two great goals, so we are happy with that. Of course, finally now you don't win the game. And also you see Rasmus is very disappointed, but he can be really happy with his goals.”

“It’s not easy to score goals in this [Champions] League so you have to be more focused and co-operate, so you don’t concede goals so quickly. But it’s also about keeping the ball and keeping control in the game, and we have to improve in that fact.”
