Google is hours away from launching new phones and a smartwatch - here's what you need to know

Google is set to unveil its newest Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2 devices at the 'Made By' event in New York tomorrow, as it joins the likes of Samsung and Apple to reveal its latest flagship smartphones for 2023.

The newest Pixel phones will supersede the current range of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices, joining handsets like the pricey Pixel Fold as one of the newest devices to buy. There are just hours to go until the new phones are unveiled this Wednesday, October 4 at 3pm UK time, and those who tune in could boost their chances of saving on the new tech.

Here's everything you could need to know about the star-studded event, including how to watch the live stream, the newest features on the devices and when the sets will reach UK stores. Plus some very eye-catching Pixel 7 deals for those who aren't fussed about having the newest device from Google, which you can read all about in our round-up, here.

This year Google seems to have taken a relaxed approach to its new announcements, and thankfully for intrigued shoppers, there are a wave of hints as to what we can expect from the newest smartphones. The tagline, 'Meet the new Pixel phones, featuring the most advanced Pixel cameras yet, and Google AI to help you do more, even faster' certainly gives us an inkling.

The Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

Ahead of the event, Google has shared a sneak peek at what the new devices will look like, as it shows off its porcelain and pink models. In the video, viewers can also get a glimpse of the standard Pixel 8 model alongside the bigger Pixel 8 Pro, a chance to weigh up if the bigger 6.7-inch 8 Pro is worth it compared to the standard model.

We can also see the camera differences between the two models, which are highlighted in both of the devices' sleek camera bars. Another quick difference for shoppers is if they're unsure which device to pick. So far rumours in the tech industry suggest the Pixel 8 will come with a dual camera set-up with a 50MP wide lens and 12 MP ultrawide lens with autofocus and the Pixel 8 Pro will have slightly more upgrades, with a 50MP wide lens, 48MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus and a 48MP with 5x telephoto lens.

Whilst the new design features are on full display for shoppers to see there's not a lot confirmed when it comes to the upgraded tech, especially its take on Google AI - something which'll likely be in the spotlight during the live event.

The Google Pixel Watch 2

  • The original Pixel Watch is currently £75 cheaper at Amazon

The second-ever smartwatch launched by Google, taking over from its predecessor the original Google Pixel Watch. This will most definitely be on a lot of Pixel 8 shoppers' lists as a wearable accessory to the shiny new handsets - but there are rumours you could get it for free.

It's not uncommon to see brands launch giveaways during tech launches and this year Pixel 8 shoppers could be given a free Pixel Watch 2 when they pre-order.... a huge freebie that will be confirmed during tomorrow's event, and another reason for shoppers to tune in.

What are the new features of the Pixel Watch 2? Exact details of the new specs will be confirmed during the event but in the lead-up to the launch, there's talk around a new chipset, improved battery life as well as new health sensors like stress tracking - not to mention features to make the watch a lot faster than the brands first-ever model.
