Teenager collapses and dies on school athletics field during build up to match
A 17-year-old student has died after suddenly collapsing on her high school athletic field during the build up to a football match.
Breanne McKean, was a senior at Mapleton High School in Ashland, Ohio. Her father, the school’s athletic director, Tim Mckean, told local news that his daughter died at Ashland Hospital on Friday.
The grieving father said his daughter, who had just been introduced as a Homecoming Queen candidate, touched many lives and “was everything to us”.
The teen, who was due to graduate from high school next year, was a passionate athlete who won awards for her involvement on school volleyball, basketball and softball teams.
Reports from the school district do not disclose the cause of Breanne’s death, calling it a “medical emergency.”

"It is with a heavy heart that the Mapleton Local School District announces the passing of Bre McKean. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the McKean family, friends and the Mapleton community." Mapleton Local Schools posted on their Facebook page.

The 17-year-old was a keen athlete and played on the volleyball, basketball and softball teams (Facebook)They went on to say staff and grief councillors were available after the announcement of Breanne’s death and thanked the Mapleton community for their “continued support, encouragement and prayers during this difficult time.”
The school’s homecoming dance, which had been scheduled for the day after the tragic incident, and all Mapleton athletic events have been cancelled until Wednesday.
The popular teenager, who was affectionately known as Bre, was remembered on social media in emotional tributes from her friends:
“Like many have said, to know Bre was to love Bre,” one student wrote. “If you’re from the outside looking in you can tell Bre loves life...every picture she’s smiling…always with her friends, she has so many.”
She added that Breanne would always be “dancing, singing, yelling, laughing, or making vlogs” and said: “We just miss you so much, but we’re trying to be happy, for you…our sweet, funny, beautiful, kind, perfect angel.”

“We all lost a special person when Bre was taken too soon,” he wrote.
“She touched so many people in so many different ways especially with that infectious smile,” he posted along with selfies Bre had taken on his phone as she waited to come out onto the pitch.

“It's gonna be hard for most of us to move on but we know that's what you would want so we will suffer through it and push forward. You may be gone but never forgotten.”
Classmates also scattered flowers on Breanne’s school parking spot which is painted with her name and the year she was due to graduate.
