Police last week attended a UK school after they received reports of a pupil carrying a knife.
Officers attended Burnside College in the Tyne and Wear town of Wallsend on Wednesday, September 27 after the alarm was raised by the school. One pupil was found in possession of a bladed article, and their family have been spoken to by officers.
A spokesman for the secondary school told the Chronicle Live that police "acted quickly" to remove the item and ensure there was no risk. He added: “The safety of our school is incredibly important to everyone associated with Burnside College.
"We received reports on Tuesday of a bladed article being on the school site and acted quickly to remove the item, and ensure that there was no risk to students, staff, or our wider community. We’ve supported the police with their investigation.”
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said to local media: “We received a report that last Wednesday, September 27, a pupil at a North Tyneside school had been found in possession of a bladed article. Officers carried out a full investigation into the report and the pupil and their family were spoken to by officers and given appropriate advice.”
Burnside College in Wallesend is a co-educational secondary school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18. It was rated 'Good' in its last Ofsted inspection in January 2020.
