Jurgen Klopp's players react to VAR scandal as Liverpool title theory quashed
It's been a rough few days for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp's side lost 2-1 at Tottenham on Saturday after a last-minute own goal by Joel Matip, but the Premier League game was overshadowed by another VAR blunder. Luis Diaz's goal was disallowed for offside, despite replays suggesting otherwise.
PGMOL, the governing body in charge of the Premier League's referees, said there was a "significant human error" and apologised to Liverpool. Yet the Reds called the mistake "unacceptable" and have promised to "explore the range of options available."
The controversy is expected to rumble on for a while yet, with Liverpool taking on Europa League rivals Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield on Thursday before a Premier League trip to Brighton. Here are the latest headlines ahead of those two games...
Liverpool handed fine
Liverpool will receive a £25,000 fine after picking up four yellow cards and two red cards during their loss at Tottenham. Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were dismissed, while Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were booked.

Klopp's assistant Peter Krawietz was also booked by Simon Hooper. As Jota's dismissal was for two yellow cards, Liverpool surpassed the Football Association's limit of six bookings for a £25,000 fine. The punishment will add insult to injury after their VAR scandal.

Alisson offered his opinion on the VAR controversy during an interview with the Brazilian press. The goalkeeper questioned why the Premier League can't used semi-automated offsides after it was successfully implemented at the World Cup in Qatar.
Allison, who started and completed Saturday's game, said: "My position is clear, everyone saw it. I don't like talking about arbitration, nor can we talk about arbitration. Sometimes it feels like we are prisoners. When he opens his mouth, he is punished from all sides."

Liverpool won't win title
Gary Neville believes Liverpool aren't genuine contenders for the Premier League title following their summer transfer business. "They've definitely got a spirit, a fight, Klopp's teams always do," Neville said on his podcast after Saturday's game.
"I don't think they'll challenge for the title. Their midfield is better and settled in quicker than I thought they would, but I still think there will be some challenges that they haven't got a true holding player. They're in a pretty decent place.
"Klopp might not challenge for the title this season but another transfer window or two and he may have something quite special... They aren't far away."
