Coleen Rooney confesses Wayne couldn't get enough of Wagatha Christie trial
There were objectively funny moments during the Wagatha Christie trial, even Coleen Rooney admits.
Her libel battle with Rebekah Vardy made tittle-tattle into a high court drama which the whole of the UK lapped up last year, when Coleen’s accusation that her supposed pal had leaked information about her was deemed “substantially true”. Now Coleen admits her footballer husband Wayne couldn’t get enough of the courtroom action, including the giggling when Rebekah made quips about Peter Andre’s manhood.
“Wayne was clued up about what was going on all around us, and at the end of each day he would say, ‘Did you see ’em laughing again?’” says Coleen. “If it hadn’t been me [in court] probably I might have laughed as well.” Wayne got pretty into it, she says – so much so, she thought he might have visions of studying law himself.
Coleen's show on Disney+ will give her side of the story“At first he was gonna stay home with the children, but after I went up to London he called and said, ‘No, I need to be there with you,’” she tells the Sunday Times. “He wanted to be there and he was quite interested in the way the court works. I think he thought he was gonna go on to become a barrister, he had so many opinions about it all. Sometimes I was, like, ‘Be quiet, Wayne, stop talking about the court, we just left!’”
Coleen says she felt Rebekah – wife of footballer Jamie – had been “unnatural” in her attempts to befriend her. “I can tell when someone is trying to force a friendship because of your status,” she said. “And I felt like the friendship Rebekah was trying to put on me was unnatural.” She added: “I’ve never fallen out with the partner of another footballer and I never thought I would.”
It was a lot more entertaining than anything on the pitch.
