Everton boss Sean Dyche has revealed he’s made it clear to the club’s prospective new owners, they have to change the narrative around Goodison.
The three joint owners of 777 Partners, who are exploring a potential £500m buy out of the Premier League outfit from Farhad Moshiri, were on hand to watch a dismal defeat by Luton. And afterwards, Dyche explained that he had met one of the partners, Josh Wander, and told them straight what is required if they are to return Everton to the levels the fans demands.
“I’ve had a meeting with them in the eventuality they do become the owners - that was 10 days ago,” he explained. “They were mainly asking us questions, they were asking what needs to change, what support we need.
“I was honest, tried to give an honest assessment of what is needed - we trying to change the story of this club, because we’ve had two years of the same thing - I think that’s obvious. We have to try and create that mentality where we are on it all the time. I think it’s broken record time, we dominated but we didn’t take our chances. So that story has to change.”
Dyche though, was told by Wander and his partners the takeover is a long way from being completed, and in the short term, Everton have to start taking the chances they create. The Blues could have been four up before Luton scored, and Dyche said: “It’s obvious the fans are going to be frustrated. We’ve got to score goals, in the end t is a game of scoring goals.

“It’s the same story, our xG is right up there. You have to take such quality chances, and their body language was better than ours. It’s the desire, the desire to go and put your body in, the desire to score the goals.”

All that feel-good factor drained away with a shock defeat on Saturday however.
The centre forward admitted: “We’re just frustrated and disappointed. We didn’t turn up today how we expected to. For me to be hitting the back of the net regularly again is a great feeling, but obviously it has fallen on a bad result today, so that is where my emotions are at the minute.
“To be playing regularly and hitting the back of the net again is something that I have worked very hard for. But it’s frustrating to lose after being full of confidence going into the game. And we weren’t clinical enough - myself included - and got punished."
Calvert-Lewin’s return though, still does offer some hope for Everton, despite their stumble. He has got a goal a game since he came back from injury, and they look a different team with him leading the line.
“It is still early in the season, and it is not panic stations; I want to make that clear. We still have another home game next week to put it right, and we fully expect to put it right with a far, far better performance," he added.
“It is down to me and the other forwards to be in there to put them in the back of the net. The issue is if we weren’t creating chances, but we are creating plenty. It is a positive for me looking at it, knowing that coming into games there will be chances for me; it is down to me to be in there to put them in the back of the net.”
