The dance floor at a wedding is a core part of the celebrations, whether that's spinning around with your family to old classics, or watching the bride and groom take the floor in their first dance. But one woman found herself in hot water after her boyfriend saw pictures of her slow-dancing with another man, after he had declined to attend the event as her date.

The woman, who was attending her brother's wedding alone due to her partner's need to study for an upcoming exam, ended up sharing a dance with the best man - her brother's childhood friend - to what's now become a go-to wedding song: 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran.

The love song is a wedding favourite for a reason with its romantic lyrics, and other's on the dance floor had "started pairing up" although the woman admitted in her Reddit post this was "mostly" with their own partners. That's when the trouble started, as she described that "the best man - a childhood friend of my brother, whom I have known since he was 5 and I was 3 - offered his hand and we slow danced for that song."

The woman said that to her mind at least, it was "strictly platonic". The guest explained she's "known him for almost 20 years and there's never been a shred of anything more - either from him or from me."

After the wedding when she received pictures and video back from the family event her boyfriend saw that she had slow-danced with the best man and was "majorly upset". Her boyfriend went so far as to say it was a "betrayal and that [she] shouldn't be slow-dancing with other men."

People had a lot to say in response to her dilemma, with some siding squarely with her boyfriend. One commenter wrote: "While you had no ulterior motives, you failed to consider how your boyfriend would feel about it. And being jealous over something like this is not irrational. It's not uncommon for new feelings to spark out of close interactions like that. You don't plan for it, but it can just happen".

However, others felt that the woman's boyfriend had overreacted to an innocent dance, with one commenter weighing in that they are "tired of how some people think that two people of the opposite sex doing anything together, like one dance at a party where there's a dancefloor and a DJ/band, are about to get down and dirty... no, they're just dancing."

A lot of commenters saw both sides of the disagreement the woman found herself in, with one writing: "For the people saying your bf is insecure, they're wrong. Dancing with a person who isn't your partner to a intimate song could be a boundary for some people and that's fair. He could've chosen a better word other than betrayal cause I think that's what everyone is getting upset over."
