When it comes to ironing, most of us would try absolutely anything to speed up the mind-numbing process. In fact, consumer research has found that around 30 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds do not own an iron and "never iron their clothes", meaning that many have shunned the household chore.
But for those with a never-ending mountain of workwear to tackle, one woman has taken to social media to reveal her insightful hack to help iron laundry faster - and it only requires a 39p kitchen essential. Professional cleaner and organiser Caroline Solomon, who goes by @NeatCaroline online, explained that using tin foil will 'speed up' the tedious task.
Speaking to her 245,000 TikTok followers, she said: "Grab your ironing board and some aluminium foil, peel off the cover and lay down a sheet of aluminium." The influencer branded the tin foil a 'magic ingredient' and highlighted that you get the best results when the foil is the 'shiny side up'. Once you have followed this vital step, place the cover back on the board and iron as usual.
She added: "Aluminium is a great thermal conductor so it speeds up ironing, it basically irons both sides at the same time." This means the foil reflects heat straight onto the underside of the garments, effectively acting like a second iron.
The video amassed more than 500 likes and gushing users rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on the insightful method. One user penned: "Definitely going to try! Thanks," while another wrote: "Where did you learn this ? Or did you come up with this idea ? Clever!"

Responding to one comment, Caroline said she was inspired to try the genius technique after watching the Today Show. Tin foil is often found in kitchens as it is commonly used in cooking or when packaging foods. It is considered a cheap product and can be purchased for 39p at Waitrose and Partners.
The Express has revealed another handy hack which requires no ironing at all. This can be done by throwing two to three ice cubes into the dryer and setting it on high heat for just a few minutes, the wrinkles in the clothes should smooth out. The impressive results happen when the ice melts in the heat of the dryer and is turned into water and then steam, therefore doing the same job the iron otherwise would. The dryer is essentially steaming the clothes so that they're wrinkle-free.
