Live TV coverage explained as Super Sunday 4.30pm kick-off missing

Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage this Sunday is not so ‘super’ anymore with just one top-flight game set to take place.

Nottingham Forest’s showdown with Brentford at the City Ground is the only clash scheduled to be televised. That game is due to kick-off at the earlier slot of 2pm.

Supporters will be hoping to make a day of it watching Premier League football in front of the TV. Sky Sports has long become known for offering a mouth-watering double-header of Premier League matches on Sundays.

However, fans will be left disappointed after learning that there is no game scheduled for the later slot at 4:30pm. Here's why...

What is Super Sunday?

Super Sunday is Sky Sports’ regular promotion of Premier League games. Usually, it consists of two top-flight games - one kicking off at 2pm, another coming at 4:30pm. This can be slightly altered but the formula is usually the same.

Why is there no Super Sunday game this weekend?

Sky have not actually given an official reason for the lack of a late game but other events taking place at the weekend appear to have had an impact. The channel holds the rights to the Ryder Cup, which is currently taking place in Rome.

The match is set to run until Sunday evening, with Sky understandably keen to keep viewers tuned in. The golf is not the only other event claiming some of Sky’s attention.

The Women’s Super League makes its much anticipated return to action this weekend. The first matches of the season get underway as early as 12:30pm on Sunday afternoon.

Sky have chosen to broadcast Chelsea Women's showdown with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday - that game getting underway at 5:30pm.

When is the next Premier League game?

Worry not, Premier League fans, you’ve not got long to wait for your next live football fix. Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea travel to Fulham on Monday evening - that game available across all of Sky’s football channels.

Super Sunday returns to its normal set-up next weekend with two mouth-watering games. Brighton first host Liverpool at the Amex Stadium for the 2pm kick-off.

Arguably one of the most-anticipated matches of the season then takes place in the following slot as Arsenal welcome last season’s title rivals Manchester City to the Emirates Stadium.

Funnily enough, Super Sunday is once again set to change in a few weeks’ time. There is just one game due to take place on Sunday 22 October - Aston Villa set to tackle West Ham at 4:30pm.
