A former Disney screenwriter behind the Bambi remake has faced massive backlash after calling for a triggering scene, that has long caused upset, to be scrapped.

For years, children have watched the 1942 movie and felt sad when Bambi's mother died. But now it seems that the live-action remake of the iconic cartoon, which was announced in 2020, could be a little different from the original.

Lindsey Anderson Beer, who was reportedly working on the live-action movie of the hit cartoon film has spoken out about the moving scene, with her even claiming it should be reworked due to "sensitive" parenting in 2023. Speaking to Collider, Lindsey exclaimed: "Not to spoil the plot, but there’s a treatment of the mum dying that I think some kids, some parents these days are more sensitive about than they were in the past. And I think that’s one of the reasons that they haven’t shown it to their children."

She went on: "What’s interesting about Bambi to me is it absolutely is a classic and it’s a beautiful love poem, such artistry to it. I do think there's an entire generation of children who have never seen the original and that's very different from, say Little Mermaid or Aladdin or the 90's heyday films that they've definitely already seen."

Lindsey, who worked on the movie Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, continued: "I can't tell you how many kids I've seen who've never seen Bambi, which is such a shame. The thing is, it is such a gorgeous film. It’s a little bit of a different tempo than I think modern audiences are used to."

But Lindsey's comments have sparked outrage, with one person taking to Twitter to pen: "Why the f*** do they want to modernise Bambi? Screw Woke Disney." While another added: "A story of loss and coming of age is too triggering for adult children... surprise, surprise."

But some people seemed to be in favour of it being tweaked, with one writing: "It was definitely very sad and maybe even a little traumatic as a young child watching the original…. Lol." A second then echoed: "That scene really upset me as a child actually & still does. And I'm actually as tough as old boots!" While a third wrote: "I'm not woke, but it is too sad tbf."
