Disney+ fans may face higher streaming costs as it hints at plans to clamp down on password sharing – a move that mirrors a similar crackdown from rival streamer, Netflix. Avid Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic fans could be charged more each month when they're caught handing out their passwords to loved ones to binge boxsets from a single login.

The change has already been floated overseas as Canadian viewers were recently informed that password-sharing would be blocked from November 1, 2023. If that deadline sounds familiar, it's when Disney+ viewers in the UK could face a price rise ...although, it's unclear whether a similar password-sharing block will be making its way to screens on this side of the pond.

Canadian Disney+ fans received an email which stated the restrictions were being implemented on users 'ability to share accounts or login credentials outside of their households'.

According to The Verge, it is still unsure how much more users will be charged for handing out their passwords or if it'll monitor the new rule by using account holders IP addresses - as fellow site Netflix do.

It means Disney+ viewers could face the same extra cost for simply piggybacking off friends and family accounts. Those who're liberal with their Netflix login and password are charged an extra £4.99 a month - and yes, that's ontop of the £10.99 standard rate.

Having monitored the rising price of streaming platforms here at Mirror Tech, it wouldn't be unusual to see Disney+ implement a similar additional cost, although fans will have to wait for official pricing.

How can I cut the cost? It's likely to be a thought on many users mind and there are multiple ways of saving money whilst lounging to your favourite series or films. Unfortunately, it is only possible for new subscribers, although nothing is stopping you from cancelling your current account and setting up a new email.

Ways to cut the cost of Disney+

As seen above there is currently a way to bag two months for absolutely FREE if you sign up to deals retailer, TopCashback. Those who take out a new plan through its link we get £15 cashback into their account, the same price as two months at Disney+.

Another way to slash the price is by buying a tech product at either Samsung or O2, where you'll get as much as a full 12-month plan for free. These products include a free Disney+ subscription:
