Peter Crouch drops bombshell Spice Girls confession after surprise film role

Peter Crouch has revealed he starred in the Spiceworld: The Movie when he was a teenager.

The former English footballer opened up about his appearance in the 1997 movie about the Spice Girls earlier this week, joking the cameo was his 'big break' into the celebrity sphere. Peter was one of the lucky fans to nab tickets to see the group's performance at the Royal Albert Hall, which was also recorded for one of the film's most climactic scenes.

Speaking about the memory on The Therapy Couch with his wife Abbey, the 42-year-old explained how the surreal experience at the age of 17 came to be. "I was a bit fan of the Spice Girls. As we all were. Let's not pretend. They were filming Spice World, the movie, and somehow going in the ballot, I got tickets for it," he said. "And obviously I couldn't take my mates so I thought "I'll take my sister."

In another interview from 2018, Peter shared his favourite part of the concert. "When 2 Became 1 came on, I really lost it," he said, before confessing it was Mel B that had him in full-blown hysterics. When Scary Spice comes to the front, I'm going mental," he added. According to reports at the time, folks travelled from as far away as Germany and Japan to see the band play live at the historic London theatre. It's also understood that the 4000 members of the audience had to sit for more than four hours due to each performance requiring several takes.

Peter wasn't the only celebrity to have have made a cameo in the Spice Girls' film. The box office hit featured a star-studded cast, with Stephen Fry, Jonathon Ross, Jools Holland, Elton John and Bob Geldof all joining the talented quintet for their cinematic debut.

This isn't the first time Peter, who retired from professional football in 2019, has made a nod to the Spice Girls. He revealed last year that he goes to bed in the clothes of Victoria Beckham's husband, telling the Star that he wears David Beckham's pyjamas every night. According to Peter, his fellow football star's fashion line offers sizes that are long enough for his 6'7 height.

"Beckham has got some pyjamas and vests. It's a bit strange, but I've got a few of those. Abbey chooses my clothes. She's good at what she does," he explained.
