Customer's sweary rant about self-checkout tills leaves people in stitches
An irate Walmart customer took to TikTok, posting a viral video about his less-than-ideal experiences at the self-checkout machines in the store — and detailing what he believes the supermarket mega-chain could be doing better.
"You can tell i had a bad Walmart trip," TikToker @thewannabefilmaker, whose real name is Armani, captioned the video, which garnered over 146,000 views and nearly 23,000 likes. He then launched into a tirade about everything he hates about self-checkout machines and their operation.
"The self-checkout was made to help you get in and out of the store faster," he says, noting that it's designed to speed up the checkout process if the in-person cashiers are taking too long.

He implores the chain to create a limit for the number of items allowed to be able to use the machines.

Beyond that, he said the majority of them have no idea what they're doing or how to properly use the machines. He said they pull up to one, and "they're scared of the machine like it's f*****g R2-D2." They'll take ages to scan their more than 100 items, or they simply struggle to get through a carton of milk.
Many will take their time at the machine and pretend they don't know how to use it in attempts to shoplift, he said. They'll take upwards of two or three minutes just to scan that milk jug so they can pretend they didn't know how the machine worked, then get away without paying for it.

They provide step-by-step instructions as you scan items, he says, leading you through each step in an attempt to get you out of there quickly and efficiently.
But none of that matters when the machines are out of order or only accepting card payments, he added, which he said he frequently encounters on trips to his local Walmart.
"Half of them don't even f*****g work. You walk in and one's got a sign on it, or you come in and [it's] 'Card Only,'" he said. They also frequently break down during the checkout process, he said.
He criticised Walmart for not hiring enough self-checkout employees to manage and oversee the machines and also for not training them so that they could address issues when they arise.
"There needs to be more than just one or two of these motherf****rs there," he said. "We need a team. They are never there when you need them. They are the most unreliable people."
He said he's frequently seen the employees chatting with each other or walking around the section, completely ignoring the customers who need help with their machines.
"Honestly, at this point, you're better off going to the regular cash register," he concluded. "In conclusion, f**k the self-checkout. This s**t is not working."
Many users flocked to the comments of Armani's video to detail their own experiences with self-checkout machines or to describe the limits their local stores have in place.

One user commented: "Most self-checkouts have a 10-15 item limit near me." "At my store we have a limit of 15 ish items and ppl still come thru it with $300+ worth of stuff like, can’t you read the sign?" added another.
Others commented that their stores had remodeled and that there were no longer any in-person registers at all. They had completely been wiped out, along with the employees who man them.
The Mirror US reached out to Walmart, but the corporation didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
